A Year in the Word

A YEAR IN THE WORD

A Year in the Word is our church-wide journey of reading and walking through the entire Bible—from Genesis to Revelation—together in 2026. Beginning in January and throughout the year, our Sunday messages, LifeGroup lessons, and daily reading plans will all align to help every person at Green Hill Church engage deeply with God’s Word.

This page is your hub for everything you need: digital reading plans for adults, kids, and young children, links to recommended study Bibles, optional workbooks, and additional tools to help you stay rooted in Scripture each day. Whether you're new to the Bible or have walked with Jesus for years, we invite you to take this journey with us as we grow in faith, understanding, and obedience to God’s Word.

Frequently Asked Questions

When does the reading plan begin? Reading begins the week of December 29. LifeGroup discussions and the Sunday sermon based on this reading will take place on Sunday, January 4. Week 2 begins on January 5.

Do I need the workbook or journal to participate? No. The journal is optional. However, we do encourage everyone to journal in some form. You can purchase the Foundations journal at The Hub or use your own notebook, following the H.E.A.R. method.

What is the H.E.A.R. method? The H.E.A.R. method is a simple way to read, reflect on, and respond to God’s Word:

  • Highlight – What portion of today’s reading stands out to you? Write down the passage or reference.
  • Explain – In your own words, explain what the passage is teaching.
  • Apply – How does this passage apply to your life right now?
  • Respond – Write a prayer and/or practical steps you will take in response to what God is teaching you.

Which Bible translation should I use? You may use any translation you prefer. We recommend the CSB, ESV, or NIV. Typically, Sunday sermons will be preached from the ESV. If you do not already own a good study Bible, we encourage you to consider purchasing one to help you engage more deeply with Scripture throughout the year. Several recommended options are available to preview at The Hub in the church foyer.

How can families participate? Families are encouraged to participate in ways that fit their season of life. We offer versions of the F260 Bible Reading Plan for younger and older kids with shorter, age-appropriate reading assignments.

In addition, kids Bible reading journals/workbooks are available for purchase at The Hub that include activities designed to help children engage with the Scripture readings in a meaningful and fun way.

Parents can read alongside older children, summarize passages for younger kids, or use the kids plan and activities as a starting point for discussion and prayer at home. The goal is not perfection, but cultivating a growing love for God’s Word in the life of your family.

Do I have to be in a LifeGroup to participate? No. You can absolutely participate through personal reading alone. That said, we strongly encourage LifeGroup involvement, as spiritual growth is most effective in community.

January is a great time to join a group. If you need help finding a LifeGroup, please let us know—we would love to help you get connected.

What if I fall behind or join late? No worries. Simply jump in where we are. This emphasis is not about legalism or keeping up perfectly. Consistency is helpful, but grace is essential. The goal is faithfully placing ourselves before God’s Word so that we can hear from Him.

Can I use the YouVersion Bible App?

Yes! We have a Green Hill Church page on the YouVersion Bible App that includes the F260 Bible Reading Plan as well as notes from Sunday sermons

To access it, CLICK HERE or search for Green Hill Church Mt. Juliet in your YouVersion Bible app.
